I've heard some information that I actually hope is NOT true.
I've heard that Zionsville is making plans to build a new firestation at 700e and 334.
The property that they are allegedly intending to use backs up to property already offered to Whitestown Fire, by Duke, for a new fire station.
This area has historically been covered by Zionsville Fire, but will become the coverage area of Whitestown on January 1, 2010 as a result of annexations.
Zionsville Fire has covered this area for many, many years and never saw a need to build a firestation in this area until now. Why on Earth would you build a new station in an area that you will no longer provide coverage. That would be like Whitestown building a new fire station in Boone Village. Why would you build a new fire station right next to property already donated to another department that WILL actually be providing coverage to the area?
If I were a Zionsville taxpayer, I would be hopping mad about this deal if it's true.
I would be upset to see my tax dollars go to build a station in somebody elses coverage area, a station whose use would be minimized by it's location.
I thought fire stations were typically built near the center of a coverage area, but this station (if built) would lie right on the edge of Zionsville's coverage area and would actually be closer to Whitestown than Zionsville.
Am I missing something here or is this possibly some kind of a show of strength, sort of an "in your face" type of play.
I have nothing personal against the Zionsville Fire Department, this would be a decision made by governing bodies over there.
Again, none of this has been presented in a public meeting (to my knowledge), and should not be taken as fact (yet). This is just information which I have heard and felt compelled to throw out.

Makes you wonder what Duke has up their sleeves? Duke has screwed Whitestown twice already, why not again?
I heard that instead of a Meijers going in...(which why it hasnt been started yet)that a walmart instead is going in....and is it rue a past board member is dating a member of Dukes'development team?Could this be the reason for the slow progess of Meijers?
I'm not convinced that Duke is playing any part in this plan, this seems more like a Zionsville governing body issue.
I heard that Meijer is only delayed while the residential side of the Anson development starts to improve enough to support the store. I hadn't heard the wal-mart rumor and hope the hell it's not true.
I can assure you that the past board member you have in mind is NOT dating anyone from Duke because I know who they are really dating!
Zionsville taxpayers mad, are you kidding? This is the same group that have nothing to say about taxes on a school building not being used. They waste more money than the rest of the county has to spend.
Problaby why a certain Whitestown company got so much before she was voted out.
Outragious water bills. That's what we need to keep our focus on.
If anything, another fire station close by is a real good thing. It means better protection.
Right now, quick response fire protection really does not exist. And Whitestown does not have the bucks to provide it.
So, if Zionsville does have the money, let them come hear and build it.
You never know, good fire protection just might help sell more houses in Anson, which means more people buying the outragiously priced water and also a bigger property tax base.
I think we should be encouraging Zionsville to put up the bucks to build a fire station. It will be a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship.
The land that Zionsville has they have had for a few years now, the plan of a station for ZFD at 700 East and 334 was no secret

Do you realize that Zionsville could build a station at 700e and 334 and Whitestown would still be dispatched if Lowes caught fire since this is WHITESTOWN'S coverage area?
Yes, Zionsville was previously offered land, by Duke, at 700e and 334 but never did anything with the land (mainly out of concern for annexation issues). Once all of the annexation stuff was sorted out and Whitestown Fire was slated to cover that area, the offer was transferred to Whitestown Fire and grants are being prepared get funding to build a new station.

Mike, wouldn't Whitestown call other fire departments for help if Lowes caught fire?
If this is true, that help would come alot quicker. I agree with Anon 10:17 this could be what we need. If they want to build a fire station this close... great it benefits us in Whitestown too. This would bring more fire trucks to my house in Walker Farms in less time.
How many calls does the fire department get in a month and does this justify more stations? How will this effect our taxes?
The number of runs varies, but the information is presented to the Fireboard by the Chief each month at the meeting, sorry I don't have numbers readily available.
Yes, Whitestown could call upon other departments as long as agreements are in place for mutual aid. You help me make my original point is that Zionsville may be asking their taxpayers to foot the bill for something that could be of more benefit to another community than their own.
Whitestown is now legally responsible for covering the Anson area and will respond to all calls to this area for which it collects taxes. If Zionsville wants to build a new station for the purpose of providing additional coverage to Anson (for which they will collect no money)that's cool.
I would hope that the purpose would be to provide better service to the un-annexed areas (Royal Run and Stonegate,) but bonus to us if mutual aid was in place. They have this now right?
yah, there are mutual aid agreements in place today but these seem to be kinda fragile agreements based on some of my observations.
