5K walk/run to help prevent domestic violence
On August 15th the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence is sponsoring 5K Run/Walk on the campus of IUPUI. The Whitestown Police Department is entering a team in the event and would like to invite you to join us as we run/walk to raise awareness about this issue and as we remember Beth Stayer who died in our community at the hands of her husband.
To join our team, go to the ICADV website (www.violenceresouce.org) and click on the link to the event. On-line registration is $20 per person, and includes an official race t-shirt. When you register, indicate that you are registering as part of team, and you will be give an option to choose which team. Ours is listed as "Whitestown Police Department and Friends". Each participant is also given a choice as to whether he/she would like to participate competitively or for fun. We have people on our team doing both, so it's really your personal choice. Also, if you prefer to register by mail and pay your fee by check rather than credit card, there is a downloadable registration form available on the website.
We also have a team fundraising website available, so even if you can't join us for the event, you can participate by sponsoring us. Please visit us at http://www.firstgiving.com/WhitestownPoliceDepartment where you can make your contributions. We have set an aggressive goal of $5000, so every dollar will help.
We would love our "small town" police department to win the prize for the largest team entered in the event, so please consider taking a walk/run with us bright and early Saturday, August 15th. One last note, we are also planning to wear matching team shirts, which are currently being designed. Please let Chaplain Thorn know ASAP that you are planning to partcipate so we can make sure to have enough team shirts ordered.
Any questions, please contact the team captain, Chaplain Terri Thorn at 317-670-1150 or via email at tthorn@whitestown.in.gov

New topic by request
To the Non-Smoking advocates in Boone County.
I have a question.
What else are you doing to reduce carbon emissions?
Mike and I both live off of 300S which is now classified as a major thru fare.
So every time you drive by our homes we are breathing your second hand smoke!
Based on some recent studies, (13 cities quoted by the Wall Street Journal) the driving of your vehicles past my home is more dangerous than me inhaling an cigar.
This is not to mention the light and noise pollution we have to endure.
When are you going to address the serious issues that mean something to the real public?
Thanks
L.J.

Fire coverage
I've heard some information that I actually hope is NOT true.
I've heard that Zionsville is making plans to build a new firestation at 700e and 334.
The property that they are allegedly intending to use backs up to property already offered to Whitestown Fire, by Duke, for a new fire station.
This area has historically been covered by Zionsville Fire, but will become the coverage area of Whitestown on January 1, 2010 as a result of annexations.
Zionsville Fire has covered this area for many, many years and never saw a need to build a firestation in this area until now. Why on Earth would you build a new station in an area that you will no longer provide coverage. That would be like Whitestown building a new fire station in Boone Village. Why would you build a new fire station right next to property already donated to another department that WILL actually be providing coverage to the area?
If I were a Zionsville taxpayer, I would be hopping mad about this deal if it's true.
I would be upset to see my tax dollars go to build a station in somebody elses coverage area, a station whose use would be minimized by it's location.
I thought fire stations were typically built near the center of a coverage area, but this station (if built) would lie right on the edge of Zionsville's coverage area and would actually be closer to Whitestown than Zionsville.
Am I missing something here or is this possibly some kind of a show of strength, sort of an "in your face" type of play.
I have nothing personal against the Zionsville Fire Department, this would be a decision made by governing bodies over there.
Again, none of this has been presented in a public meeting (to my knowledge), and should not be taken as fact (yet). This is just information which I have heard and felt compelled to throw out.

Primrose School
New thread based on an unrelated comment on another thread.
old town girl said...
Mike, this is not pertinent to the fire board meeting, but nowhere else to put it... Did you see that the new daycare center in Anson is calling itself, "Primrose School of Zionsville"? Now correct me if I'm wrong, but not only is the building within town limits -- behind the new signs even -- but also their mailing address is Whitestown. Is Whitestown's reputation really so heinous that our businesses now just lie about where they are located? This isn't like the Lowe's that actually has a Zionsville mailing address. This is petty stuff, but incredibly annoying.
